very messy idea of what the set up options are.

Ok so the top two are my dining room and bedroom. against the windows are curtains to cover the doors. the other box is a bed.
the bottom two are my roomates room and taken from each side. the window is just to show where i would put curtains to simulate a window.

we can mix and match either set ups, we can use to two actual bedrooms and put them together. its easier to visualize with photos.

Casting Updates! And special request from all crew members.

I am pleased to inform you all that we have cast our two lead roles, Raul and Lizzy.

I was pleasantly surprised by all of the amazing kids that came in to audition. I know we are going to have a great time working with these two kids, they  are mature for their age and very professional.
I've also cast the role of Anita, I'm waiting on a reply for Estella and I need to audition for the role of Victor.
Do any of you have someone you would like to recommend? Looking for a mid 30's male. It's a non speaking role.

We should be beginning test shoots and production design this weekend.
I will be running around town gathering props. As soon as Sharon and I finalize the the props list I'll post it so that we can all see if we have certain items to contribute.

I'm looking for brightly colored objects for the exterior, similar to what my presentation looked like. If you have old flower pots I can paint, a colorful wind chime, an old chair I can repaint anything that you can discard or that you don't mind giving a bold color to let me know.

Also, I think Cristy mentioned this to me about a previous shoot she was on. If any of you have anything special that you would like to include in our production design please let me know. For instance something meaningful that you had in your bedroom when you were younger, or a picture of you and a relative that you would like to recreate for either of our kid's bedroom's. If you have any saved drawings from elementary school, I don't know anything. Let me know, and I'll incorporate it to the design.

In fact, I'd really like you all to think of something that is personal to you that we can incorporate to the production design. It will make our short project more personal.
Thanks Cristy for the great idea.

so here is the radio we are going to use. I'm borrowing it from my dad. It has a headphone input. Its a small handheld that I used to play with a lot when I was younger. I think it adds a lot of personality to Raul's character. The prop alone makes you wonder what the story behind it is. Let me know what you think. I know I was going for a more 1980's style, but when my dad mentioned this one I asked him to lend it to us.

Gels and Lighting Effects

Hey Everyone,

Since we are using gels to create different lighting effects for the shoot, we have to make some decisions.

First of all, if we want FREE gels, we can get them from Mopac Media, or find out if equipment check out has some gels. However, our choices will be limited. At work right now there are some awesome gels, but they are either too pink or too green for the spotlight scene.

Some choices are: Moroccan Frost, Moroccan Pink, Marine Blue, and some other greens that I didn't try out

If we want specific colors, like purples and blues, we would need to purchase some at Olden Lighting, which costs $6.95 for every 20x24" sheet.

Here is the place where you can look at the colors online: http://www.leefilters.com/lighting/products/colours/

The colors at work are beautiful. Great effects. But is it what we want?

I found two desks on Craigslist

I already contacted the owners to make sure the desks were still for sale and they are.

$30 in Leander

$20 in Buda

Because we are not likely to find two of the same, I was thinking that the spotlights could be two separate shots that we put together in post-production. Each spotlight is going to probably be a 1k, unless you do end up wanting something more stylized.

Some cool stuff I found that would look great

these are two photos of course of our Duplex location. The landscaping is pending, but I don't really mind it the way it is. I think I can add some color by adding a couple of bright chairs, maybe bright planters and chalk on that walkway. Small details can be very interesting.

This girl is illuminating her face with a flashlight and sitting in a position similar to how lizzy would be, except with a blanket over her head and she would be wearing something purple or orange.  Below is a wall that looks similar to what I imagine for Raul's room. I saw something that kind of sparked my interest while browsing through room decor. There was an object with a backlight. Its hard to explain but the use of night lights or lamps in this project would really add alot to Raul's bedroom scenes especially if we gel it with color.

This silhouette looks really interesting I wonder if we could add some sort of color splash similar to this to Anita's silhouette image in the beginning of the film, and play with the contrast of darkness while adding color with lighting.

Above is a photo taken from a play called "The Yellow Boat" I can see the spotlight scene lit like this except with only two spot lights and maybe not a blue backdrop. But it adds a lot to two children sitting in the desks.

and this doorway just looks fun maybe something for the bedroom as well.

I know the samples of lighting are pretty intense and highly stylized. But its just some ideas as to what we can really do with these few shots to add a lot of personality to the film.

Comments? Please share. I know some of this seems overly ambitious but we can take ideas from these images and really use them to our benefit.
