Gels and Lighting Effects

Hey Everyone,

Since we are using gels to create different lighting effects for the shoot, we have to make some decisions.

First of all, if we want FREE gels, we can get them from Mopac Media, or find out if equipment check out has some gels. However, our choices will be limited. At work right now there are some awesome gels, but they are either too pink or too green for the spotlight scene.

Some choices are: Moroccan Frost, Moroccan Pink, Marine Blue, and some other greens that I didn't try out

If we want specific colors, like purples and blues, we would need to purchase some at Olden Lighting, which costs $6.95 for every 20x24" sheet.

Here is the place where you can look at the colors online: http://www.leefilters.com/lighting/products/colours/

The colors at work are beautiful. Great effects. But is it what we want?

I found two desks on Craigslist

I already contacted the owners to make sure the desks were still for sale and they are.

$30 in Leander

$20 in Buda

Because we are not likely to find two of the same, I was thinking that the spotlights could be two separate shots that we put together in post-production. Each spotlight is going to probably be a 1k, unless you do end up wanting something more stylized.

Some cool stuff I found that would look great

these are two photos of course of our Duplex location. The landscaping is pending, but I don't really mind it the way it is. I think I can add some color by adding a couple of bright chairs, maybe bright planters and chalk on that walkway. Small details can be very interesting.

This girl is illuminating her face with a flashlight and sitting in a position similar to how lizzy would be, except with a blanket over her head and she would be wearing something purple or orange.  Below is a wall that looks similar to what I imagine for Raul's room. I saw something that kind of sparked my interest while browsing through room decor. There was an object with a backlight. Its hard to explain but the use of night lights or lamps in this project would really add alot to Raul's bedroom scenes especially if we gel it with color.

This silhouette looks really interesting I wonder if we could add some sort of color splash similar to this to Anita's silhouette image in the beginning of the film, and play with the contrast of darkness while adding color with lighting.

Above is a photo taken from a play called "The Yellow Boat" I can see the spotlight scene lit like this except with only two spot lights and maybe not a blue backdrop. But it adds a lot to two children sitting in the desks.

and this doorway just looks fun maybe something for the bedroom as well.

I know the samples of lighting are pretty intense and highly stylized. But its just some ideas as to what we can really do with these few shots to add a lot of personality to the film.

Comments? Please share. I know some of this seems overly ambitious but we can take ideas from these images and really use them to our benefit.

Look of the film

And to my little production crew.

Thank you guys, you have been heaps of help during this entire Pre-production phase. I think we are off to a really great start.

Auditions tomorrow

UPDATE: I've scheduled a good amount of candidates for tomorrows audition. It should be a good turnout (and judging on resumes and head-shots a lot of talented kids). I'm putting together my Director's vision presentation, if there's anything you think of that correlates with any of the material we've discussed, send it my way. You all kind of know where I'm going by now (hopefully). I'm going to continue working on the script, I noticed a good amount of grammar and formatting issues. In due time, we should THE script

Audition information

We are holding auditions this Wednesday beginning at 6p.m, the room is TBA (waiting on Alex). We are hosting a co-audition with Marshall's "Color by Numbers" and  we have a good amount of replies, so we are seeing actors by appointment.

ALSO, we are turning in a production notebook to Kat this thursday. I'd like for us to keep individual notebooks. But also I'm asking that you have your notebook ready by Wednesday so that I can xerox copy the contents and add it to the main production notebook that needs to be turned in.
We will each have a small notebook to organize ourselves, and I'd like to keep a major production notebook for the entire project.

Yvonne.
